Reviews

Independent adversarial review, published whole

Every document is reviewed by two models from different providers, each given the document and instructed to refute it, each blind to the other. Output is constrained to a schema, validated before it is accepted, and turned into a published verdict by the fixed rule in build/audit/adjudicate.py.

Reviews are published whole. That includes the findings the rule downgraded, the ones the reviewers disagreed about, and the ones that blocked a document this project had already invested a day in.

The rule

rule what it does why
R1 A fatal or major finding that names no section, or states no fix, is downgraded to minor A severe objection that cannot be acted on is an impression, not a finding. Downgrading keeps it visible at the weight it earned
R2 Coverage is stated, never assumed One returned verdict cannot produce agreement, and calling it agreement is the failure this process exists to prevent
R3 An unrebutted fatal finding carrying a verbatim quote blocks the document, whatever the votes say A quote from the document is a fact about the document; a vote is a judgment about it
R4 Reviewers who disagree produce contested, not a winner The disagreement is the information

Rule version 1, pinned by twelve golden cases in tests/test_adjudicate.py. A rule is changed only when a case fails under the old rule and passes under the new one, and both directions have been checked.

Verdicts

verdict meaning
sound no finding above minor
changes-required findings at major stand, none fatal survived
contested reviewers disagreed and neither side settled it
unsound every reviewer that voted judged it unsound
blocked an evidenced fatal finding stands unrebutted
no-verdict every reviewer abstained

What review has cost so far

The first document reviewed was blocked, on two fatal findings that were verified against primary source and are correct. One of them is that the protocol had already looked at its own outcome before claiming to be confirmatory. That is the second time in this project the same class of error occurred, the first having been the reason the protocol was written at all.

A review process that never blocks anything is not a review process.
